Introduction
This page is concerned with defining the data flows between AODB and Fixed Resource Management systems, in either direction. A "Fixed Resource" is defined as one which is always physically located in the same place, the following is a non-exhaustive list of such assets :
| Resource | Notes |
|---|---|
| Terminal | Not at all airports. Likely to be fixed by the airline |
| Gate | Allocated per flight (the service which a passenger buys a ticket for). May be determined by the stand, but there may not be a 1:1 relationship with the stands |
| Stand | Allocated per aircraft |
| Reclaim carousel | The place where arrival passengers collect their bags |
| Make-up Carousel / Lateral | A belt which carries bags around until a handler is able to pick it up and load into a ULD |
| Security Lane | For departing passengers |
| Check-in Desk | May be allocated to specific flight(s), or for an airline or alliance for a period of time. May also be segregated by passenger class |
| Transfer Desk | |
| De-Icing Pad | Used for aircraft at some airports |
| De-Icing Lane | Used for aircraft at some airports |
| Runway* | May be outside of the scope of the airport, depending on operational procedure |
| SID* | May be outside of the scope of the airport, depending on operational procedure |
Note that the scope here does not include non-fixed resources such as luggage trolleys and taxis, nor does it include human resources such as security staff.

Use Cases

Title | Create flight resource allocation |
Description | Allocate a fixed resource to a flight or an aircraft movement, for a defined period of time. The resource should then be visible in the flight record |
ID | |
Title | Create resource allocation |
Description | Allocate a fixed resource for a defined period of time. The resource is allocated to a piece of work which may be multiple flights (e.g. a check-in counter), one flight (e.g. a stand), zero flights (e.g. a gate outage), or unrelated to flights. |
ID | |
Title | Update flight resource allocation |
Description | Update the allocation of a fixed resource to a flight, changing either the period of time, or the resource assigned to it. The status of the allocation may also be changed e.g. to "Provisional", "Pending", "Cancelled" etc. |
ID | |
Title | Update resource allocation |
Description | Update the allocation of a fixed resource, changing either the period of time, or the work(s) assigned to it. The status of the allocation may also be changed e.g. to "Provisional", "Pending", "Cancelled" etc.. |
ID | |
Title | Delete flight resource allocation |
Description | Remove the allocation of a fixed resource to a flight for a defined period of time, so that the allocation is no longer visible in the flight record. |
ID | |
Title | Delete resource allocation |
Description | Remove the allocation of a fixed resource. |
ID | |
Title | Create resource restriction |
Description | Allocate a restriction to a fixed resource for a defined period of time, so that flights may only use it within that restriction (e.g. a stand can be used but not with a jet bridge) |
User Stories
- As a resource planner I want to reserve a resource for a set period of time, so that it is not reserved by anyone else at that time
- As a resource planner I want to allocate a resource to a flight so that the resource is visible when viewing flights
- As a resource planner I want to indicate downtime on a resource so that it is not used by anyone at that time
- As a resource planner I want to delete an allocation of a resource to a flight and create a new allocation to that same flight simultaneously, so that I can reallocate resources to a flight safely with no risk of interference between the two steps
- As an operational stakeholder I want to request a resource allocation for an aircraft movement (identified by tail number) so that I can operate successfully
- As an operational stakeholder I want to request a resource allocation for a particular flight (identified by flight number and date) so that I can operate successfully
- As an operational stakeholder I want to query all resource allocations for a particular aircraft (identified by tail number) so that I can plan successfully and be assured that the aircraft will have ground service
- As an operational stakeholder I want to query all resource allocations for a particular flight (identified by flight number and date) so that I can plan successfully and be assured that the flight can be operated
- As an operator of ground service equipment I want to query all allocations for a particular resource so that I have the information I need to schedule staff operations
- As a stakeholder working within the terminal I want to query all allocations for a particular airline so that I can
- As a resource planner I want to schedule downtime for a particular resource so that no allocations will be made on that resource during that time
- As an operational stakeholder I want to request scheduled downtime for a particular resource if I know that resource will be unavailable, so that no allocations will be made on that resource during that time
- As an operational stakeholder I want to inform resource planners that a particular resource is currently unavailable so that other stakeholders are aware and no allocations are made to that resource
- As an operational stakeholder I want to inform resource planners that a particular resource has a restriction on it (e.g. gate and stairs can be used, but jetbridge is unavailable), so that other stakeholders are aware of the restriction
- As a resource planner I want to schedule restrictions for a particular resource (e.g. gate and stairs can be used, but jetbridge is unavailable), so that other stakeholders are aware of the restriction
- As an airline I want to extend the time that a stand or gate is allocated to a flight due to an early arrival or late departure so that airport planning or operations staff can resolve any conflicts with allocations for other flights in the same period
- As an airline I want to request that the aircraft allocated to a particular flight will be changed for another aircraft so that the operations management staff will reflect the correct flight and gate number in their resource management system
- As a resource planner I want to see receive new time estimates for the arrival and departures of a flight to see how the planned resource allocations are updated
- As a resource planner I want to see the (flight independent) status of the resource (e.g. for a stand: empty, FOD-check completed, occupied...)
- As a resource planner I need to plan a remote holding operation for a departure flight
- As a resource planner I need to allocate quickly a free stand for a unforeseen return-to-stand departure flight
- As a resource planner I want to see the flight in my AODB flight view highlighted whenever I select a resource allocation in the RMS and vice versa (exchange of UI selection events for focus control in integrated work environments)
N.B. The updating, removal etc. of planning rules happens within the resource allocation tool does not involve data exchange so is not considered here.

Terms
The following are terms which require a link to an existing ACRIS definition, or for one to be created:
- Terminal
- Gate
- Stand
- Baggage Belt
- Make-up carousel
- Security Lane
- Check-in Desks
- Transfer Desks
- AODB
- Flight
- Aircraft movement
- Allocation / resource allocation
Would be useful to have a definition of "Piece of work" which allocations can be attached to- this may be multiple flights (e.g. the thing a checkin counter is allocated to), one flight (e.g. for a stand), zero flights (e.g. a gate outage), or unrelated to flights (e.g. bathroom cleaning)
Possible definition of terms such as "Provisional", "Pending", "Cancelled"?
