FIXM stands for Flight Information Exchange Model. It is an international data standard designed to facilitate the exchange of flight information between different systems and stakeholders in the aviation industry. Developed to support the Flight and Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE) concept by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), FIXM ensures that flight data is shared consistently and accurately.

Key features of FIXM include:

  • Core and Extensions Architecture: The core contains globally applicable flight data, while extensions support additional regional or specific requirements.
  • XML Schemas: Provides a set of XML schemas to standardize the data exchange process.
  • Interoperability: Promotes seamless data sharing across different systems and international boundaries.

FIXM is part of a family of information exchange models, including the Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) and the ICAO Weather Information Exchange Model (iWXXM), which together cover various aspects of Air Traffic Management (ATM) information needs.
